Introduction

Hi, I am a proud tree-hugger and I am a member of Kentucky Waterways Alliance (KWA),Beargrass Creek Alliance (BWA), Sierra Club, American Canoe Association (ACA), American Whitewater Association (AWA), Bluegrass Wildwater Association (BWA) etc. .

Do you own a canoe, kayak, neither or both?

I own two kayaks; a 12 Current Designs Kestrel- 12ft Recreational and I just bought a 13ft Perception Search- sit-on-top recreational/fishing/crusing kayak.

If you are an avid paddler, what are some of your favorite places to go?

The Elkhorn Creek as well as the Kentucky River; especially at High Bridge south of Versailles. I have paddled in the Pugent Sound via the San Juan Islands, WA. I have provided kayak support for the swimmers in the three Ironman Triathlons.

How did you find out about this group?

From the owners of River City Canoe and Kayak and a member of the Viking Canoe Club; which I am a five year member. I love the outdoors. My goal is to meet up with a group of people who care about the environment, kayaking, and enjoy diversity.

What David M. Wimsatt is saying about this Meetup Group

This group seems to be a fun loving, diversified group of men and women who love getting out on the water and who enjoy good company. I look forward to attending many future outings with this group. This is a great idea and a safe and fun way to meet like minded people. I mean after all, you will know much more about a person after spending the day paddling down a river than if you met them in a bar.

  • David, I had a terrific time! I've been a runner since 1983, so I get pretty syked when I see such great athletes. I can't wait for more paddling. I'm going to look into getting a new rack for my car so I don't have to tote around the trailer anymore!

  • My comments about safety at other times other than ironman - not leaving people behind - were rejected, not cool. What do you think about not leaving people behind?

  • Dave, don't know if I will have enough stamina to do both, but will think about it. I think Emily might be doing both. You seem like a sensible person. Will you look at my post on the safety training session being held tonight and comment?

  • Thanks again for contributing to an amazing time on the water. I learned so much and it meant a lot to have someone care to take the time! See you around!

  • Welcome to the group David! That's for all your support in the past with KyMBA/IMBA. Keep an eye out here for some group rides and trail work days and jump back in...you know you miss riding those trails. Happy trails!

  • Thanks for the warm welcome. I would definitely be up for kayaking on Patoka Lake and pizza. I'm hoping my work schedule will work out where I can go on a few of the trips.
